Later Rev Matthew Moore succeeded him in the pastorship. He resided at Cahirconlish Parsonage at Pust, about a mile to the west of the village of Cahirconlish. He was against the attempt by Thomas Spring Rice re portion of tithes to be given to the catholic clergy. His son Hawtrey later 10th Baronet was involved in a dispute with his landlord, Maunsell of Co Kildare that led to a fatal affray in 1844. He had a group of men guarding his herd of cattle which were under a court habere when an opposing group intervened leading to one man being wounded and later died. Hawtrey lived in Castle Lodge a large two story house near the Parsonage House that was erected during his father's pastorship. The house still stands today but the parsonage is a ruin. In 1844 he advertised the property for six months rental. Patrick Hourigan PC Caherconlish Nov 13 2023<br />Pat Houriganhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17057222675131784285noreply@blogger.com
