Since the climate in Makri during the summer was very hot, they used to move to Levissi where they owned a summer house and it was cooler. It was something common between the Greek inhabitants of Makri to own a second house in Levissi and go there during the summer. For this, not all the houses of Levissi were inhabited the whole year. As for the counting of the houses, we have to take under consideration first that the most houses of the local farmers were spread around and secondly that many houses were destroyed up to our time.vassilikinoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6561249004966522983.post-68239885320042641492009-05-15T07:36:00.000+01:002009-05-15T07:36:00.000+01:00I have counted the remaining houses in Kaya "Ghost...I have counted the remaining houses in Kaya "Ghost town" and arrived at a number less than 500. Given that some houses north of the main road could also be called Levissi and that some houses will have been destroyed when the black-top road was constructed I think it is fair to say thet Levissi had "...about 500 houses" In my opinion the population may be said to have been around 2,500.<br />My figures are supported by The archaeologist Otto Benndorf who held the chair of archaeology at the University of Vienna. Benndorf visited Levissi in the early 1880's.Dwight Longhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03489733312412335139noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6561249004966522983.post-76249614565457267872008-11-21T12:44:00.000+00:002008-11-21T12:44:00.000+00:00Thank you for an excellent piece, was looking for ...Thank you for an excellent piece, was looking for info on Kristoforos and found your blog.Anukatrihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11525569008303856727noreply@blogger.com
