When he married Josephine Wybault in 1893 her address was Sion House and her father Joseph Wybault an army officer. William was a Major in the Prince of Wales's (W.Yorks) Regiment. He was born at Rahasane park, Co Galway one of the seats of the Joyces of Merview. He and his wife are both buried in St Mary's Church of Ireland Cemetery in Kilkenny.BRMhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14559364234667479298noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6561249004966522983.post-13447357827499764872018-08-06T16:20:17.014+01:002018-08-06T16:20:17.014+01:00Thank you for your masterful summary of the Herdma...Thank you for your masterful summary of the Herdman family and Sion Mills historic linen village. It is pretty accurate apart from a wee muddle in the middle which is entirely excusable given the fact that my family took it generation about to call the eldest son either John or Emerson, and my cousins over the hill at Carricklee, Strabane did the same, but when the head of our family was John theirs was Emerson and vice-versa. Our joint ancestor was my great-great grandfather James Herdman, eldest of the three brothers who founded the Mill. As the muddle was on my side of the family, I will work backwards. I am Celia Ferguson MBE and my father was Commander Claudius Alexander Herdman RN (second son so missed out on being John or Emerson, although his elder brother Emerson Tennent Rex Herdman had no children and my elder half brother was John Mark Ambrose Herdman and his son is Emerson Patrick Rupert). My father's parents were John Claudius (Jack) Herdman (Capt Jack) and Maud Harriet (nee Clark-Kennedy) MBE. Jack had 5 elder sisters and one of them, Ella (Elizabeth Alice) married Ambrose St Quintin Ricardo, but had no children. Another sister, Olive Mary, married her first cousin from Carricklee, Emerson Crawford Herdman (later Senator Major Sir Emerson Herdman HML), whose father John Herdman of Carricklee was the elder brother of her father, Emerson Tennent Herdman of Sion House who married Frances Alice West. John and Emerson Tennent were the second generation in Sion Mills, elder sons of James Herdman and Elizabeth Suffern. John's wife was Mary Gosselin. Their only surviving child was Sir Emerson Herdman who married his cousin Olive, and their son John Patrick had a son James Emerson Herdman of Carricklee who was the last Chairman of the Herdman company,Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08488396038349832436noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6561249004966522983.post-49114579424810898292018-08-06T16:19:34.048+01:002018-08-06T16:19:34.048+01:00Patrick Comerford - Would you like a complimentary...Patrick Comerford - Would you like a complimentary copy of the excellent history of Sion Mills published as an illustrated coffee table book last year by the Ulster Historical Foundation written by Dr Jonathon Hamill PhD.
