In fact he and his wife, Mary, lived on the top floor, probably the former servants’ quarters. Only his study, his workplace was on the floor below.<br /><br />His son, Michael, was living with them when I married him in 1951, and we stayed with them for a while in 1955 before we moved to Oxfordshire.
