My grandmother Marcella ffrench Blake-Forster was born in Arran View, now a hotel, and lived in Ballykeal until she married Michael Comyn KC. They had two daughters, Dr Eleanor Rose Comyn RIP and sadly this week Dr Marcella McCann passed away. You may be able to direct me but there is a Captain F. Rowland Forster who fought in the Crimea. As a child (now an oldie) I spent a lot of time with my grandmothers sister, Auntie Fanny (Frances) who entertained me with lots of family lore ... all I recall is the men went to "battle" but there are no real details in my head. I am working with a lovely Ukrainian mum helping her with English. I think I recall that I had relatives who fought in the Crimean war. I must say you have made the history so comprehensive. I have the Sept which would have come from Ballykeel which take the family history all the way back to Flanders and the Northumberland Bamburgh Castle, which is now celebrated. My mum went to visit it in the 1980's with my brother. My mum and her first cousin Eileen had a deep comprehensive grasp of their family history. I see that many towns such as Ballyvaughn, Ballybur and Ballyragget, where my ancestor Peter Comerford was baptized, begin with Bally. Will you please tell me the meaning of Bally? Also in your post about Forster House you use the words plinth and quoins. Please give me a definition of these terms. Thank you, Cheryl Comerford Comer USAcomer62https://www.blogger.com/profile/01107220262633778302noreply@blogger.com
