Didn't know before that was how long that Moses lived, and appreciated your remarks about the Rabbis on that too. Am so glad for all of the love and support you have received since your stroke....you deserve all of the best that this life can offer..... that you had great medical help in physically recovering from your stroke, but also wound up finding love and marriage in your beautiful life partner as well. I really am enjoying your picture with the magnolia tree...... many years ago my late grandfather was very much into gardening, especially in his later years....many many many rosebushes and other unusual flowers, trees, and shrubs at his home. His unusual plantings, included a magnolia tree right by the front entrance to his house, so during my whole life magnolias have had a special place in my heart. Makes me happy to think of you having coffee out there while you were recovering and also finding love as well. Great photo of you with the magnolia in the background. Hoping that you do wind up getting a full 120 years.....you bring so much to this world, and you I hope you get many more years to enjoy your life. PS my grandfather who was so very much into gardening, especially after his retirement, was born from two Irish immigrants, and his ancestors were my Comerfords from County Wexford....so he was one of your distantly related cousins from past generations. Keep up your vigor, happiness, and the joy of living. You are still just slightly younger than I am, and it makes me happy when we folks keep fighting the fight with health issues, and keep hoping to make it to over 100. As a Comerford (...Patrick, fancy meeting you here. As a Comerford (Maudlin St, Kilkenny, RC St John’s) I follow you for Comerford information, but while researching my maternal grandfather side “Manning” from Ballyane, Limerick I came across your 4-year-old post regarding Shanid Castle and mention of Waterpark House. Maybe you can provide some research advice on finding information on my maternal great grandmother, Hanorah (Anne) Dillane prior to her marriage.

My maternal grandfather William Manning was born in the area in 1905 and his family was living in Ballyane in the 1901 and 1911 census, but the reason I was looking for information regarding Waterpark House was his mother. On my great grandparents Patrick Manning and Anne Dillane civil marriage register solemnized at RC Shanagolden, 30 Nov 1899 it reflects Anne’s occupation as servant and her current residence as “Waterpark Shanagolden”, father’s name Edward labourer, and a witness named Mary Dillane. These are the only clues I have for her prior to her marriage. This leaves me at a loss to find her home townland and her mother’s name. I have a few trails I have tried to follow in Limerick and neighboring Kerry, but no clear connection and there seems to have been a lot of Dillane’s especially near Listowel.

Would Waterpark House have kept records of any kind on their servants (where they are from)? Any advice would be appreciated.

Bill Comerford, USA
Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6561249004966522983.post-33878170214140779452024-03-17T23:59:12.488+00:002024-03-17T23:59:12.488+00:00I was lucky to meet Helen in 1989, and spend the d...I was lucky to meet Helen in 1989, and spend the day at Butlerstown, chatting about our shared connection from nearly 200 years prior. It's a fascinating, deeply poignant story as his genius wasn't recognised while such a great philosopher was alive. Ironic also that his daughter received so little money for the manuscript while the publisher must have profited hugely from his purchase. I'm sure you're aware of Oliver St John Gogarty's clever poem, Croker of Ballinagarde and the saying, "I doubt it, says Croker," which lingered for a long time after that was written. I have a story just self-published called A Twist in The Tale of The Devil, which is not unlike The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists.
