A sunny afternoon in the cathedral

Having introduced a group from Northwest University in Seattle, Washington, to Christ Church Cathedral, Dublin, yesterday, I was back in the cathedral this afternoon [Tuesday 23 May 2012] to introduce some members of the wider Comerford family to the cathedral and to the heart of Dublin.

James D (‘Jim’) Comerford is a practicing lawyer or attorney in Atlanta, Georgia, and a Counsel with Hunton and Williams LLP, a law firm with offices in 19 cities across the US, including Atlanta, and in Europe and Asia.

He has been visiting London and Oxford in the past week with his wife Camilla (Corrigan) Comerford and their son Jimmy, and they are now in Dublin.

It was a warm sunny, summer afternoon, and after a thorough tour of the cathedral and the crypt, with lengthy conversations that ranged from Handel to Pugin, liturgy to architecture, and we spent a pleasant hour or so outside the Bull and Castle across the street in Christchurch Place where the conversation embraced politics, music, travel, and politics.

In the beautiful sunshine, it was easy to imagine we could have solved the woes of Greece and sorted out all the problems of Europe and the Middle East.

Tomorrow we may visit Ballybur Castle, the Comerford ancestral home halfway between Kilkenny and Callan.
