A white cross in the sky

Despite our mixed weather in Dublin in these days immediately before Midsummer, there was a beautiful red setting sun this evening as I travelled through Rathgar, Terenure and Templeogue on the No 15 after a late meeting in Church House.

By the time I got off the bus at Knocklyon, the setting sun had dropped behind the houses on the west side of Ballycullen Road. But two planes whose paths had crossed earlier had left the traces of a clear white cross in the blue sky above Firhouse and Knocklyon.

Well, I had spent much of the evening at a meeting of the Church of Ireland Commission for Christian Unity and Dialogue.

The mixture of heat and rain has brought the shrubs and trees in the grounds below my study into full, colourful bloom, and the walks through the gardens at the institute in Braemor Park are an extra delight this week.
